Moving adventures!

I have come down with a case of bronchitis with laryngitis and since I'm on my 5th day without a voice, and assigned a day of rest to get over the hump, I thought I'd do a blog post to update a little bit.

Here are a bunch of photos of our recent move.  We still aren't moved in yet since we've had to do cleaning, repairs and repainting and tonight will be the first night everyone will sleep on a real bed.  Soon I will give you the tour of our new home, but for now here are some glimpses of the glorious chaos minus the severe thunderstorms we loaded and unloaded during and the tornado that touched down within miles of us while we were trying to get the truck unloaded and back on time.

Our wonderful neighbors let us use their horse trailer to haul our cows to the new house and we were able to pack it up to the last stall.  Good thing because we still had trouble fitting everything in the moving truck!  Things sure do accumulate quickly!

The kids had fun playing in the horse trailer.  They had so much energy us older ones sure wished we could've harnessed some of it better or borrowed it for awhile.

Jordy couldn't resist snapping this photo of Jacob carrying one of the calf huts!

Kelwynne sitting in the emptied out living room at the old house snacking on some crackers while we finish loading everything up and prepare to head out.

The truck is almost done.  All we had left were the two fridges and the gorilla rack, which since it was still holding my pepper plants and the florescent lights, was last to go.

I slipped outside to snap a photo of us just about ready to head out.

Here we are at the new house with piles and piles of belongings and everything all out of place.  Jordy's having a coffee break while Samuel gets his diaper changed.  This is the living room.

This is looking down into the dining room from the living room.  Jordy is still enjoying that coffee or maybe it's yet another cup...hmmm, who knows how many cups he was up to by now!  Steve took this photo of Kelwynne rocking her little heart out on the rocking horse on top of the mattress.  At least she would've had a soft landing had she tipped over!

Look!  The moving truck is FINALLY empty!!  Woohoo!

During the torrential downpour the rainwater leaked into the moving truck and many of our boxes got thoroughly soaked, including boxes of books and clothes.  We had to do load after load of laundry to get the clothes clean and put our new clothesline to good use.  I was drying Emily's bed quilt on the line and couldn't help but take a photo of the beautiful view I enjoy while hanging laundry.  The setting sun was glinting off of the trees in the background (our very own wooded forest!) and the peace and tranquility is so wonderful.  That is our nearest neighbor's farm just off in the distance with our largest hay field between the yard and the front wooded area.  There is another wooded area behind the house with grazing pastures and the creek winds through both wooded areas.

This is looking back towards the house.  You can see the garage in front of the house with the wonderful old barn in the distance beside the machine shed over by the circular drive that has the sidewalk leading up to the other side of the house.  You can just see the setting sun behind the barn.  One thing I will really miss is the fantastic sunsets we enjoyed at the other house.  We have pictures of most of them because they were so spectacular.  I've never seen such beautiful sunsets as the ones we enjoyed here in Missouri this past year.  I will miss them!

Here's Noah and Naomi taking a break and playing.  That's the carport and the garage in the background.  Between the two is the old smokehouse that has been insulated and renovated into a freeze-free room.  I have all of my canning jars and supplies in there now with some gardening things also.  You can see the garage is still full of boxes for us to move into the house and unpack!

Noah and Naomi have been busy catching frogs.  Two of them died and they had a burial for them, complete with gravestones and roses.  Too cute!

Emily spent most of one day, with help from assorted others, getting the pepper plants into the ground along with most of our winter sowing experiments.  She dug holes for each pepper plant, barefoot, and then dumped some of our yummy homemade compost from over the past year and then staked them with broken dowel rods and yarn.  They seem pretty happy.

The garden sits between the pastures the cows are using.  It is like an upside down U, but square, with pasture to the left and right and behind.  That is one of the four wells in the background.  Steve wants to paint it to look like a miniature Swiss chateau.

We used some broken decorative border fencing we found to support a few of them.

Here is how she planted them so she could stake them.

Looking back towards the house.

There are rose bushes all along the barbed wire that separates our yard and this pasture to the east of our house.  We will have to get this hay mowed soon!  We have our own hay!!

Well, that's a little peek into our new home and surroundings.  We still have to figure so much out and finish finding a place for everything.  The home is smaller than we've had for years and we have more people than ever before so it is proving to be a challenge.  The logistics of organizing and making it work for us is a bit beyond me, but over time we will work it out.  The land is exactly what we were looking for and hoping to find.
